State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin proposed banning palm oil in children's foods and limiting its use across other food categories. He noted that the quality of imported palm oil varies significantly and part of it may be harmful.

An earlier KPRF bill banning palm oil in children's nutrition was submitted to the government. The drafters argue the measure is needed to protect children's health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
