Calls from business numbers to be labelled by default
From 1 September, mandatory labelling of calls from business numbers takes effect in Russia. Subscribers will now see the name of the company or sole trader, along with the call category.
The call category could be, for example, "Bank", "Advertising", "Real estate" or "Telecom services". The information will be passed on by telecom operators under a contract with the business.
The government explained that the measure targets cyber fraud and will let citizens more reliably filter out unwanted and potentially dangerous calls.
